How Do I Create a Plan?

Learn how to set up plans in your Mighty Network.

Updated this week

If your settings don't look like the ones below, check out this article.

Plans offer the most options and flexibility for gating access to your Mighty Network, Spaces, or both.

Use plans if you want to require people to do one or more of the following when joining:

  • Pay (Payments gate)

  • Answer questions (Screening Questions gate)

  • Request approval (Approval gate)

You can set where Plans appear for people to join, or choose to make them accessible by a link only and share that link with specific groups of people.

Before you create your first plan, you will need to decide how to set up your Mighty Network and sell access to your courses, events, and experiences inside. Check out this article for our top recommendations.

Create a New Plan

Get started by going to Admin > Plans > Plan List.

Then, use the + button in the upper right corner to start creating a new plan.

This is the first screen you will see:

Decide What You Want Included in Your Plan

The first choice you will make is what you want included in your plan. This determines the type of member that will join your new plan.

A plan that includes access to the Network will grant full Network membership, meaning access to your entire Network and all of the global features you’ve enabled (including private messaging).

A plan that only includes access to a single Space or bundle of Spaces will allow you to offer limited memberships. This gives you the opportunity to create standalone experiences—such as a course, live event, or lead magnet—inside a Space, without granting full access to your Network.

In the example below, the Network is included in the plan being created. Everyone who joins this plan will be a full Network member.

In this example below, the plan only includes access to a Space. When someone joins this plan who is not already a full Network member, they will join as a limited member with access to only the Space(s) included.

Fill in the Details

In this section, you will add:

Plan Name

Give your plan a name in the first field. This name is visible to someone who is joining the plan, and it will also be visible in their settings as a member of the plan.

Internal Note

Add an Internal Note that will only be visible to other Network Hosts, if you want to help differentiate between similar plans. This is also useful when filtering plan data in Mighty Insights™.

Image or Video

Adding an image or video makes your plan look dynamic and appealing, and this image will appear in any prompts to join the plan as well as the top of the plan page.

Sales Pitch

This is a short tagline that appears alongside the plan name to explain why people should join this plan. You have a limit of 120 characters.

Benefits List

This list highlights the benefits your members receive or the access they will get when they join or purchase this plan. We recommend adding at least three!

Description

Add formatted text and images in the description field to share more about the exclusive experiences inside and who new members will be able to meet. This is the perfect place for expanding on your sales pitch and reinforcing the value of joining.

If you don’t add a custom description and you only include your Network or a single Space in the plan, you can default to simply showing the description that’s already in place for your Network or that Space.

Choose Your Gates

On the next screen, you’ll see the ability to add gates. Enabling any of the options listed will take you through a flow to customize and set up those gates.

If you choose to keep all of the gating options off, your plan will be easy for someone to join in one simple flow with no payment, screening questions, or approval required.

Screening Questions and Approval

If you want to gate access to your new plan using screening questions and/or approval before someone can join the plan, toggle on these options.

Potential members will be shown these questions or required to wait for approval before they have the option to pay or join.

Since these are two separate toggles, you can create a number of combinations:

  • Screening Questions only: The member would answer the questions before they purchase or join the plan.

  • Approval only: The member would need approval from a Network Host or moderator before they’re allowed to purchase or join the plan.

  • Screening Questions and Approval: The member would need to answer the questions and be approved before they’re allowed to purchase or join the plan.

You can create up to five custom questions that potential members can answer (each can be required or optional) before they are allowed to purchase or join a plan. To learn more about screening questions and approvals, check out this article.

Payments

If you want to charge for access, add a payment gate to your plan. Just note that before you can finalize this step and require payment for a plan, you’ll need to first connect a Stripe account to your Mighty Network.

You can also use this option to create a plan that’s labeled as “Free” with no payment required.

If you don’t want “Free” to be visible and you simply want this plan to grant access with no payment required, leave the Payments option toggled off.

Web 3 Token-Gating

You can also gate access to your Network or Spaces by validating ownership of a specified token (along with the amount) through a connected crypto wallet. For more information on how to set up Token-Gated plans, check out this article.

Configure Gates

Next, you’ll decide how you want your gates set up.

Screening Questions and Approvals

If you selected one of these options, you’ll see the ability to customize your questions or confirm that you want approval gating turned on.

Pricing Type

If you selected the option to charge for access, these are the options you’ll see:

  • Free

    • No payment is required when joining this plan, and it will be labeled as “Free” when someone joins it. If you don’t want “Free” to appear and you don’t want to charge for access, we recommend going back one step and turning off the Payments gate.

  • One-Time Payment:

    • A member pays only once to gain access to what’s included in this plan. They'll continue to have access as long as they are a member of your Network and this plan. The minimum amount you must charge is $0.50.

  • Subscription:

    • You have the option to offer members a recurring subscription they can cancel anytime (daily, weekly, monthly, annually, etc...). You can have two subscription interval options set up per plan.

      • Members retain access to what’s included in the plan as long as they continue paying for the subscription.

      • When you offer both a monthly and annual subscription, we recommend giving members a discount for choosing the annual option, and the savings will be clearly shown.

      • All interval options are available on web and mobile web. Only monthly and annually are available on iOS.

  • Installments:

    • This setup allows a one-time purchase plan to be split into multiple payments. To learn more, check out this article.

  • Combine Offers:

    • This setup lets you show two pricing options for the same plan side-by-side. To learn more, check out this article.

    • Examples include:

      • Monthly vs. Annual Subscription

      • One-Time Payment vs. Installments

Platforms

Select the platforms where this plan will be available.

You have the option to make your plan available on:

  • Web, Android, and iOS

  • Web and Android

  • iOS

On Web

  • When you opt for your plan to be available for purchase on the web, you have the flexibility to charge up to $10,000 USD.

  • If you want to charge over $10,000, you can process payments off-platform and then grant access to your Network or Spaces using plans without payment gates.

  • If you’ve chosen to sell plans in multiple currencies, you’ll need to add a price for each currency available in your Network.

On iOS

  • When setting your price, you'll choose from a list of pre-set prices that end in $0.99 and max out at $999, per the rules that Apple has in place.

  • For your plan to be sold as an iOS in-app purchase within the Mighty Networks iOS app, Apple has additional fees associated with all purchases, and you may want to take this into consideration when you price your iOS plan. Apple also has a separate review process. Once your plan is approved by Apple, you will receive an email notification. Though Apple approval timelines vary widely, your plans will be available for purchase on web immediately!

  • For purchases made through the Mighty Networks iOS app, all payments are processed using Apple In-App Purchases and these are managed via the App Store. When a member buys through iOS, Apple’s standard policy requires that they take a 15% transaction fee per each transaction. Mighty Networks does not charge a transaction fee for any iOS purchases. Also keep in mind that when you create a new plan and set up pricing for that plan, you always have the option to increase the price only on iOS, as a way to offset Apple's required fees.

  • If you are on Mighty Pro with your own branded apps, there will be different steps required for enabling in-app purchases on iOS and our team will walk you through the process.

  • Important Note: Apple will automatically convert currency depending on the person's location.

On Android

  • When you choose to sell paid plans on the web, the Android app will display a message indicating that plans are available and can be purchased on the mobile browser or desktop web.

  • What members will see in the Android app:

Free Trial

If you selected a subscription price, you’ll see the option to add a free trial that can last from 3 days to a full year. You can always adjust or turn on or off a free later after you create your plan. Learn more about free trials here.

Choose a Tax Category

If you’ve set up the integration with Quaderno that helps with handling taxes, you’ll see the option to select a tax category here. Learn more about using Quaderno and how taxes are handled here.

Payouts, Taxes, and Currency

All payments made through the web will be deposited directly into your connected Stripe account.

Mighty Networks handles all payouts from Apple for iOS purchase, and will transfer earnings to you monthly. Apple also handles all taxes and applicable currency conversions.

If you are on Mighty Pro with your own branded apps, the Apple payout process will be different, and iOS purchases will flow directly into the bank account you have connected to your Apple Developer Account.

To learn more about how you get paid, check out this article.

Finish

Once you've filled out all of the required steps, you'll see a preview of how your new plan will look to your members.

Finally, you’ll click the Create Plan button.

Your plan is now ready to be made visible (if desired) and shared!

Visibility & Sharing

After you create your plan, decide where you want it to appear.

Visit the settings for your new plan (by going to Admin > Plan List > click on the plan) and you’ll see a Visibility & Sharing tab.

On this tab, you can choose where you want to make a plan visible. If the plan includes access to the Network, you’ll see the option to make it visible in places like the Network About Page. If the plan includes access to a Space or bundle of Spaces, you’ll see the option to make it visible on the Collection where the Space lives, or on the Space About Page.

When you make the plan visible in at least one place, it becomes active.

This means that in order for anyone to join your Network or any Space(s) included in the plan, they will need to join through a plan.

You’ll also see this indicated in Privacy & Access Settings (either for your Network or for the Space(s) included in the plan), where it will now say Accessible Through Plans.

These are your options for a plan that only includes access to a Space or bundle of Spaces (which will grant a limited membership for anyone who is not already a full Network member):

To learn more about these options, check out this article.

Invite to the Plan or Create a Share Link

If you want to keep your plan hidden from any of these places but still enable certain people to join the plan, you’ll want to use the Invite to Plan option or Create a Share Link for the plan.

Under the Visibility & Sharing tab, you’ll see these options.

When you create a share link for a plan, it becomes active.

This means that in order for anyone to join your Network or any Space(s) included in the plan, they will need to join through a plan.

You’ll also see this indicated in Privacy & Access Settings (either for your Network or for the Space(s) included in the plan), where it will now say Accessible Through Plans.

As soon as you create a share link for a plan, you’ll see two or three share link options appear, depending on what is included in the plan and if it combines two offers.

When you copy the link for the Plan Landing Page and share it with someone, it will direct them to a full page describing your plan with the name, image, benefits, and description listed out, along with calls to action based on whether the plan has a payment gate or not.

When you copy the link for the Skip the Landing Page option and share it with someone, it will direct them to a flow that starts with either the option to Sign In (best for people who could already have an account) or Create Account (best for marketing your plan to those who do not yet have an account).

Redirect to Sign In

This link will skip the landing page and go directly to the Sign In page before someone joins the plan:
