Here’s how to set up a Space where:
Anyone who is already a full member of your Network can freely access the Space (i.e., no additional plan required)
At the same time, limited members can access the Space by purchasing a plan
In effect, the Space will be set to “Anyone Can Join” and also have plans attached that give access to limited members.
Step 1: Set the Space’s privacy and access so anyone in the Network can see and join it
Within the Space Settings, navigate to Privacy & Access.
Under “Who Can View Content Inside This Space?” select either option.
Under “Who Can See This Space?” select “Anyone in the Network”
Under “How Do People Join This Space?” select “Anyone in the Network can join this Space without restrictions”.
At this point, full members of your Network will be able to see and join the Space without needing a paid plan.
Step 2: Create the paid plan for limited members
Since you also want to allow limited members to pay for access, you need to create a plan that includes the Space but not the entire Network.
Go to Admin → Plans → Plan List → + (Create Plan).
In the plan creation step, choose “Space Access” (i.e., select the option that gives access to one or more Spaces but NOT full Network access).
Select the Space from Step 2 to include in this plan. Do not include the full Network. This ensures members on this plan are “limited members”.
Configure the payment gate for the plan (set price, subscription vs. one-time, etc.).
Step 3: Choose where the plan appears
On the plan’s Visibility & Sharing tab, choose where the plan should appear. This will depend on your Network’s Privacy & Access Setting for “Who Can View Content Inside Your Network?”.
If your Network is set to “Anyone,” then select all three options: Landing Page and Global Header, Collections, and Space About Page. Limited members will be able to see the Space in their navigation.
You can choose to show the plan only on the Landing Page and the Global Header if you don’t want full members to see it, but then it won’t appear for limited members either.
If your Network is set to “Only logged-in members,” then select only Landing Page and Global Header, since limited members won’t be able to see the Space, Collection, or Space About Page to purchase the Plan. Limited members will not see the Space in their navigation.
For either option, consider creating a promotional banner targeting limited members that promotes the Space’s plan. You would set up your audience for the banner by excluding any Network members or targeting limited members on a specific plan to join the plan for the Space you just set up. Once they join that plan, they will no longer see that banner.
Note: If a limited member with Space access through a plan becomes a full member, they will still have access to the Space, but they may want to consider canceling their plan if they are still paying for it, since they now have automatic access as a full member.
With this setup, you get the desired model: one Space visible and joinable by all full members and accessible via paid purchase for limited members.
