Can I Set Up Age Verification In my Mighty Network?

Updated this week

Yes you can! This guide is for setting up Yoti, a third-party platform and approved Of-com provider that meets OSA regulatory requirements for age verification for content in your Network.

Part 1: Set up Yoti

  1. Submit Yoti’s interest form.

    1. Submit Yoti’s form and note that it’s for Mighty Networks.

  2. Complete onboarding with Yoti.

    1. Verify your business with Yoti and complete their additional onboarding steps.

  3. Create your Yoti verification application.

    1. In Yoti, set up and configure the app you’ll use to send verification sessions.

Part 2: Configure your Mighty Network

Age verification with Yoti works through Screening Questions and Approvals on Mighty Networks. These features are only available on Plans.

Any content that needs age verification must be behind a Plan.

🟡 If it's just some content that needs age verification

Step 1: Move that content into its own Space (if it’s not already). This makes it easier to apply age verification without changing access to your entire Network.

Step 2: Create a Plan that includes that Space.

💡Important:

  • Adding a Space to a Plan switches that Space to Accessible through Plans. This allows Limited Members.

🟠 If you're age-gating an existing Space (or multiple Spaces)

Step 1: If those Spaces aren’t already part of a Plan, create one (or more).

You can either:

  • Make one Plan per Space, or

  • Bundle them together in a single Plan, depending on how you sell access.

💡Important:

  • When you add a Space to a Plan, you enable the ability for members to only have access to that Space (limited memberships) and not the rest of your Network (full membership). Click here to learn more.

🔴 If the entire Network needs age verification

Step 1: Create a Plan that includes Network Access.

Step 2: Add any other Spaces that the member should get access to upon joining the Network.

💡Important:

  • You can create multiple Plans if there should be different variations e.g. different tiers get different combinations of Plans.

🟢 Once your Plans are set up,

  1. Turn on Screening Questions and Approval for all Plans.

    1. Go to the Plan your new members will join.

    2. Enable Screening Questions and Approval (see here for more details).

  2. Add a clear Screening Question.

    1. Use this text (copy/paste):
“An age-verification link will be sent to your email. Please answer ‘Yes’ below to confirm you understand it’s required and that you will complete it.”

Part 3: Verify existing members

  1. Export your current UK members.

    1. Export your Member List and filter for members located in the UK.

  2. Send Yoti verification sessions in bulk.

    1. Use Yoti’s bulk upload (up to 200 people at a time) to send verification links.

  3. Notify your members of the requirement with a deadline.

    1. Let them know when verification is due and that unverified accounts may be removed after that date.

After Setup

How the new-member flow works

  1. A person signs up for a Plan that has Screening Questions and Approval turned on.

  2. They see your Screening Question that says an age-verification link was sent by email and they must complete it.

  3. Once they submit their Screening Question, you’ll receive a notification that someone wants to join the Plan. Then you will send a Yoti verification session to the applicant.

  4. Once Yoti shows verified, you approve them in Mighty to join the Plan.

  5. After approval, they can access the community.

How the existing-member flow works

  1. Export your Member List and filter for UK members.

  2. Use Yoti’s bulk upload (up to 200 people at once) to send verification sessions.

  3. Customize the email to include the deadline and reason.

  4. When the deadline passes, cross-check Yoti’s verified list with your Mighty Networks Member List and remove any who did not verify.
