The UK Online Safety Act 2023 (OSA) requires platforms, like Mighty Networks, to restrict access to content defined as “primary priority content that is harmful to children.”
To comply with the law, we’ve taken two steps:
Free Plan Networks: UK access is blocked, since the Free Plan does not include the moderation tools needed for compliance. Restoring access requires upgrading to a premium plan, which includes those tools.
Paid Plan Networks (including Community): Our compliance systems flag content that requires age verification. In these cases, UK access can only be restored if:
All existing UK members are verified through a compliant, approved provider, and
All new UK members complete age verification during signup.
Your Network and content remain fully available to members outside the UK.
We hope to continue to improve our native safeguard so that access can be allowed in the UK while meeting UK requirements, however, these improvements are not expected until later in 2026 since this requires time and extreme diligence on our end.
In the meantime, if you’d like to implement your own native safeguard that allows access to your Network in the UK while meeting OSA requirements, you can explore integrating with a third-party service called Yoti. Here’s our guide on how that set up.
Please note, by choosing an alternative to our native safeguard, like Yoti, it would require you to verify all existing members and have an age verification process in place for new members. Only after both requirements are reviewed and approved by us, can we legally remove our native safeguard.
We know this adds complexity, and our team is here to support you as you decide the best path forward for your community.
