How Do I Use the Search Function in My Mighty Network?
Updated over a week ago

Mighty’s search tool is designed to help you find exactly what you need across your Network. It allows members to quickly locate specific content and helps keep your content well-organized for easy discovery using hashtags.

Global Search vs. Space Search

Your Network’s Global Search scans content across the entire Network. It includes content from:

  • All Spaces you’re a member of (Public, Private, Secret, or Paid)

  • Public Spaces you’re not a member of

This means you can find relevant information from all over your Network in one go.

Space Search focuses on finding content within a specific Space. When you use Space Search, it only shows you results from that particular Space. You’ll know you’re using Space Search when you see the “Space: Space Name” filter under the search bar. This helps you find relevant information in one specific area of your Network without distractions from other Spaces.

How to Use the Search Bar

Using the search bar is simple. When you start typing, results will automatically start to populate. Once you have your results, you can sort them by “Top”, “Newest”, or “Oldest”.

You can then narrow down your search using various filters. You can filter by:

  • Space

  • Everything

  • Members

  • Posts

  • Your Activity

  • Near You

  • Events

  • Comments

  • Member Category

These options allow you to quickly find the most relevant content.

Types of Searches

Mighty offers different types of searches to help you find exactly what you're looking for:

Plaintext searches using any term without a hashtag and finds content that includes parts of the search term, even if it’s not an exact match.

  • Examples: "running team", "Michael", "Thursday brunch".

Hashtag Exact-Match searches for a specific hashtag and only returns content that contains the exact hashtag.

  • Examples: "#resources", "#news", "#Marathon2023".

Combined search combines hashtags and plain text in one search term.

  • Examples: "#marathon Boston" finds content tagged with #marathon that also includes the term "Boston".

Search Scenarios and Their Results

If you search only a hashtag, the search function will return content with the exact hashtag you enter.

  • Example: "#dog" will return content with the exact hashtag #dog.

If you search both a hashtag and text, search will filter hashtagged content by the additional text term.

  • Example: "#dog poodle" will return content tagged with #dog that also includes the word "poodle."

If you search multiple hashtags, the search will return content that contains all the hashtags you entered.

  • Example: "#dog #cat" will return content that has both #dog and #cat hashtags.

If you search only text, the search performs a fuzzy match to find content related to the text term.

  • Example: "dogs" will return content that includes the word "dogs" in various forms, like "dogsAreTheBest" or posts with the hashtag #dogs.

How Mighty Orders Results

When you search in your Mighty Network, the results are organized to help you find the most relevant content quickly. Here’s how it works:

Relevance First: The default order prioritizes relevance, meaning the most pertinent results appear at the top. This includes:

  • Space Name Matches: If the search term matches the name of a Space, these results are given high priority.

  • Active Spaces: Spaces with more members and recent activity are boosted in the search results.

  • Your Spaces: Content from Spaces you created or belong to is ranked higher.

Membership/User Name Matches: Results that match member names or usernames are given a significant boost. These appear below Space matches but above posts.

Post Matches: These have a normal boosted score and appear after Space and membership matches.

Comment Matches: Comments are given lower priority and are shown after more relevant content like Space matches, membership matches, and posts.

By understanding how the Mighty search function works, you can tailor your searches to quickly find the most relevant content and keep your Network well-organized for easy discovery.
