Changing the Setting for ‘How Do People Join This Space’ from ‘Accessible Through Plans’ to ‘Invite-Only’ or ‘Anyone Can Join’

If you’ve been using Plans to provide access to your Space but want to change it so that any Network member can join or only invited Network members can join, follow these steps. Network and Space Hosts can make this change.

How to change from ‘Accessible Through Plans’ to ‘Anyone Can Join’

Click the gear icon for the Space, then click Privacy & Access. Check the box next to “Anyone in the Network can join this Space without restrictions.” This will also display the option to enable Auto Join for the Space if you want to automatically add all current and future members of your Network to this Space.

Your Space Privacy & Access settings should look like this:

Now, Network members who are not yet members of the Space will see the option to join it. All existing members will remain on their plan for the Space.

If you no longer want people to see the plan for the Space alongside the option to Join, then go to the plan’s settings and change the plan to hidden (uncheck all boxes under “Choose Where This Plan Appears”).

How to change from ‘Accessible Through Plans’ to ‘Invite-Only’

To make this change, you need to make all active plans that include this Space inactive.

Go to the settings for each plan that includes this Space and select the Visibility & Sharing tab. Make the plan hidden by unchecking all boxes under “Choose Where This Plan Appears” then scroll to the bottom and click ‘Delete all links’ for the plan (if none were created, then you can skip this step).

All existing members will remain on the plans that give them access to the Space, but the plans will no longer be visible or available for anyone to join via a link.

Your Space Privacy & Access settings should look like this:

Now, you can use an invite link or invite people via email to join the Space. People with an invite will be granted access to the Space. People who have not been invited will not see an option to join the Space.

If you set up your Space so that any Network member can join, or only invited Network members can join, but you want to change to using plans to provide access to your Space, follow these steps. Network and Space Hosts can make this change.

First, create a plan that includes the Space and any other Spaces you want to give access to.

Make your plan active by clicking at least one box under “Choose Where This Plan Appears” or by creating Share Links for the plan.

If your Space was set to Anyone Can Join, you must also go to Space Privacy & Access and uncheck the box next to “Anyone in the Network can join this Space without restrictions.”

Your Space Privacy & Access settings should look like this:

All existing members still have access to the Space but will not be on a plan. Going forward, people must join the Space via a plan. Anyone who is invited to the Space will be navigated to the available plans for the Space.
