Can I Offer a Free Trial on a Mighty Network?

Updated this week

You may want to give new members the option to explore your paid subscription plans with a Free Trial before they start paying. Adding a Free Trial is optional when you create a subscription plan, and each plan can have its own trial length.

Note: Free Trials are not available for one-time, installment or free plans.

How Free Trials Work

A Free Trial gives members temporary access to your plan without being charged.
When someone starts a Free Trial, they’ll enter their credit card information, but they won’t be billed until the trial ends.

Members receive notifications before their Free Trial expires and are responsible for managing their own subscriptions. If a member cancels their Free Trial, access is removed immediately—they won’t be able to continue the remaining trial period.

iOS exception: If someone cancels through the App Store, they may keep access until the end of the trial. Apple manages all billing changes and notifications for iOS purchases.

Free Trials allow your members to get short-term access to your plan for a period of time without being charged. When someone starts a Free Trial, they will be prompted to enter their credit card details. However, they will not be charged until the Free Trial is up.

How to Set Up a Free Trial

  1. Go to Admin > Plans > Plan List.

  2. Create a new subscription plan or edit an existing one.

  3. When prompted, select a Free Trial length. Available options include:

    • 3 days

    • 1 week

    • 2 weeks

    • 1 month

    • 2 months

    • 3 months

    • 6 months

    • 1 year

How to Remove or Change a Free Trial

To update the Free Trial on an existing subscription plan:

  1. Go to Admin > Plans > Plan List > Select the Plan > Settings > Platform Information.

  2. Open each platform (Web, iOS, Android) to update its Free Trial duration.

  3. To remove a Free Trial entirely, select None.

Changes only apply to new members. Anyone already in a Free Trial will keep the original duration from when they joined.

You can also use this process to add a Free Trial to a plan that didn’t previously have one.

Managing Failed Payment Methods After a Free Trial

If a member’s payment method fails at the end of their Free Trial:

  • On web purchases, they receive a 7-day grace period.

    • Stripe automatically retries the payment one day after the first failure, then every two days until day 7.

    • If payment still fails on day 7, the member loses access.

  • On iOS purchases, the grace period is 16 days.

    • Apple handles all retries and notifications through the App Store.
