If you're Host of a Mighty Network and you've upgraded to the Community Plan or the Business Plan, you have the option to create and publish Events in your Mighty Network. This feature gives you the option to create events with a physical location, Live Chat Events, Live Video Events, or Online Meetings.
This article will show you how to create a Live Video Event or Online Meeting in your Mighty Network.
Creating a Live Video Event or Online Meeting
To create a new event in your Mighty Network, first make sure that you've enabled Events by going to Network Settings > Content > Events. Then, you can use the + button that you see at the top of the main feed (or on the Events page) to start creating a new event.
After you've added a title and description to your event, you will see an option to select the type of event you want to create.
Select Online Meeting if you want to host a virtual live meeting with your members using an external service that lets you talk live, chat, and/or share a live video stream from your computer or phone. We personally love using Zoom for online meetings, but any provider you prefer to use will work.
Select Live Video if you want to host a live streamed video presentation or event for your members using an external service that lets to stream video. For Live Video Events, we love using Crowdcast, Go To Webinar, Facebook Live, YouTube Live, Vimeo Livestreaming, or other similar services.
For both of these event types, you will need to link out to an external service of your choice that you want to use for your virtual event.
As soon as you select the event type, you'll see a required field pop up that prompts you to add a link to your event. This is where you'll paste in the link for the event on the external service you're using for your event. If you're using Crowdcast to host your Live Video Event, for example, you'll want to add the link to your Crowdcast event here. If you're using Zoom, just paste in the link to your Zoom room.
How Members Join Your Live Video Event or Online Meeting
After you've finished adding all the details for your new event and it's published in the community, members can start RSVP'ing. When it's time for the event to start, they just need to click on the saved link on the event to join, and they will be automatically popped into the event that you created on an external service.
Here's what that looks like in our own Community Design Masterclass in Mighty Hosts:
Posting a Recap of Your Live Video Event or Online Meeting
If not everyone in your community is able to attend your live virtual event, there are a few ways that you can share a full recap with everyone after your event is over.
Some services (like Crowdcast and YouTube Live) allow members to revisit the same link at a later time to watch a replay of the live event. If the service that you're using also allows you to download the full video stream that was shared as an .mp4 or similar video file, you can then re-upload the video to the service of your choice (we personally use YouTube and Vimeo most often) and embed the saved video into any article, event, or course materials you share in your Mighty Network. Here's the full list of video embeds we support today and how to add them.
Adding a new article after your event is over with a summary of what happened and an embedded video is a great way to give members a way to watch the recap later.
Special Instructions for Hosting Facebook Live, YouTube Live, or Vimeo Livestreaming Events
Since we currently support directly embedding YouTube, Vimeo, and Facebook video links directly into articles, events, and course materials in your Mighty Network, this means that you can also simply embed your *live* broadcast video happening on one of those platforms into the event post you created, or any other article in your network. When you embed a live video that's streaming on one of those platforms into an article or event in your Mighty Network, members can watch the video right within that post in your community without having to go anywhere else.
One caveat to keep in mind if you choose this option is that we currently only support directly embedding Facebook Live videos that are happening from a public Facebook page.
For more instructions around how to embed a video that's hosted from any of these platforms, just go here.
Also please note that currently we don't have the option to sell event tickets directly. The way that you will do this today is to put your Events in a Paid Group or Course and charge for that Group or Course.
