How Do I Upload and Embed Videos, Audio Files, Rich Media, etc to My Mighty Network?

In your Mighty Network, you have the ability to upload and embed a variety of different types of content, including audio files, videos, and forms.

Currently, you can upload and embed content within an Article, an Event, or in the Sections or Lessons within a Course that live inside your Mighty Network. For direct uploads, videos can be up to 2GB. All other file types can be up to 25MB.

Read on for specifics related to uploading and embedding each file type.

Uploading Video

For Network Hosts on all Paid Plans, we support uploading videos directly to Articles and Quick Posts. If you're on our Mighty Pro or Business Plan, you also have the ability to upload videos directly to your Courses.

The ability to upload videos to Articles and Quick Posts is available on the web, iOS, and Android. Once they’ve been uploaded, your members will be able to watch your videos seamlessly across the web and all mobile apps. Members will not be able to download uploaded videos just yet but we will offer this in the future. The maximum resolution for uploaded videos is 1080p. When uploading on Android, be sure to select a video from your device, not from Google Drive.

To upload a video directly to a Quick Post, click the “+” at the top of your Activity Feed to pull up the quick insert toolbar and you’ll see an icon that says “Photo, Video, File” when you mouse over it. Click the icon to upload your video file.

When playing a video from a Quick Post, your members will see the playback options from your video provider: closed captioning, playback speed, etc.

A video embedded in an Article will not show the playback options from your video provider.

Embedding Video

For all Hosts, we also support embedding videos directly from the services below.

🎥 YouTube, Vimeo, Facebook Video, or Searchie.

To protect your content and to ensure that it is not shared beyond your control, please note that uploaded videos may not be downloaded by Hosts or Members. We recommend using a third-party storage service like Vimeo or Google Drive to keep original copies of your content.

For Quick Posts, simply paste the video’s URL into the text area to automatically display the embedded version:

For an Article, an Event, or the materials inside a Course, you can embed video directly by using the "Add Video" option when you open up the + button.

Copy the full URL where the video is hosted (not the full embed code), paste it into the field where you see "Video URL," and add an optional thumbnail. The video will then be embedded directly into your content, and members can watch it without leaving your Mighty Network. Note: You can embed YouTube videos set to Unlisted but not Private.

Note that vertically filmed videos will show an automatically zoomed-in horizontal thumbnail.

To force closed captioning to play on your Youtube embedded videos, you will need to add a tag at the bottom of your video in your Youtube settings.

Login to your Youtube account and open the YouTube Studio. On the left menu, click in the tag section, at the bottom of your video and add the attribute yt:cc=on, and click Save.

You can also embed a video URL for a Livestream. For step-by-step instructions on live streaming from Vimeo, click here.

One important note for videos hosted on Vimeo: If you are embedding private videos hosted on Vimeo, there is one additional step you'll need to take to ensure that your videos play both on the web and within the Mighty Networks iOS and Android apps.

When you are adjusting the privacy settings for each video on Vimeo.com, you must select the privacy setting "Hide from Vimeo" and then add the option for the video to be embedded to "Specific domains", Then, you need to add the custom domain mapped URL for your Mighty Network AND "mn.co" as the second approved domain. If you do not have "mn.co" listed, the Vimeo video will not play in the mobile apps.

Here is an example showing how this was set up for a video that was embedded into Mighty Community:

One important note for videos hosted on Searchie: Searchie does not have an API that enables course progress tracking, so if you want to enable course progress tracking, use YouTube. At the moment, we also do not support widgets being embedded.

🎥 WistiaLoomDailymotion, or Rutube

For these services listed above, you can embed video directly by using the "Insert Embed" option when you open up the + button while creating or editing an Article, an Event, or the materials inside a Course.

Just copy the video URL (not the full embed code) where it's hosted, paste it into the box, and the video will be embedded directly in your content.

🎥 .MP4 Videos Hosted Elsewhere (for example Amazon S3)

You can also embed video .mp4 files hosted on services like Amazon S3. For this option, just use the "Add Video" option when you open up the + button while creating or editing an Article, an Event, or the materials inside a Course.

Embedding Audio Files

While it's not possible yet to upload sound or audio files directly to your Mighty Network for playback, we do support embedding audio files that are hosted on the following services.

🎙 SpotifySoundcloudAudioboomLibsynPodbean, or Flat

For these services listed above, you can embed audio directly by using the "Insert Embed" option when you open up the + button while creating or editing an Article, an Event, or the materials inside a Course.

Just copy the full embed code for the audio file where it's hosted, paste it into the box, and the audio will be embedded directly in your content so that members can listen without leaving your Mighty Network.

Some services have different processes for embedding, so we recommend trying the embed code and the share link if the first option doesn't take. If you have any trouble, reach out to our support team with the URL of the audio file.

Here's a preview of how to embed audio hosted on Soundcloud:

Soundcloud_upload.gif

For adding a Soundcloud embed, you will need to use the full embed code for a track hosted on Soundcloud, not the link for the track.

For adding a Spotify embed, you will need to embed the share link for Spotify versus the embed code.

🎙 .MP3 Audio Files Hosted Elsewhere (for example Amazon S3)

You can also embed audio .mp3 files hosted on services like Amazon S3. For this option, just use the  "Insert Embed" option when you open up the + button while creating or editing an Article, an Event, or the materials inside a Course.

Copy the full link for the .mp3 audio file where it's hosted, paste it into the box, and the audio file will be embedded directly in your content.

Additional Supported Embeds

For the services listed below, you can embed these items directly by using the "Insert Embed" option when you open up the + button while creating or editing an Article, an Event, or the materials inside a Course.

Typeform

Note about Typeform: You only need to paste in the URL of the actual form into the embed option, not the entire embed code. Customized Typeform links are not supported, please use the default link provided on the Typeform Share Page.

Embedding Typeforms is a great way to incorporate a quiz into your Courses.
