How Will My Mighty Network Transition to Spaces?

Check out the video of a Mighty Network transitioning to Spaces live!

Skip ahead in the video to about 4:00 if you want to see the transition in action!

When Will the Transition Happen?

Existing Mighty Networks will transition to Spaces starting on  December 8th. The transition in your Network will take just a few seconds. If you’re watching the moment it’s happening—or your Members are—you’ll see a brief “loading screen” and then your new—but familiar—world awaits! You can see it happen in the video.

What Do I Need to Do? What Do Members Need to Do?

You and your Members do not need to do anything. We will “flip the Spaces switch” on our end, and you will see your Network with Spaces enabled.

What Exactly is Changing on December 8th?

In pure and simple product terms: Your left-hand navigation will look different, your Courses and Groups will become Spaces, and your Topics will become Spaces or hashtags—or both.

You can rename and reorganize Collections, Spaces, and the names of the tabs within Spaces—where all the features live.

Here’s a picture of a Mighty Network, with Spaces, with a reorganized and renamed left-hand navigation.

You’ll also be able to explore new features, like Pages and Single Events (the latter coming shortly after December 8th).

What Will Happen to My Current Home Feed?

Your current Home Feed will transfer to a new Space called “Home” in a Collection called “General”. You’re of course free to rename and reorder both that Space and Collection.

The new Home Space will match the features that are available today at the Network level: Feed (and the permissions that were set before for who was allowed to post Quick Posts and Articles- everyone or only Hosts and moderators.), Events and Members list. After the transition, you can manage these features by renaming, reordering, removing or adding new ones!

The content inside the new Home Space might change depending on how you choose to migrate Network-level Topics.

Everything will stay in Home if you choose hashtags only, but if you choose Spaces, the content associated with Topics will move out of Home (to the new Spaces) and Home will contain only content that hasn’t been assigned to a Topic.

To learn more about Topics and how they will transition, check out "How Do Topics Transition in Spaces?"

What Will Happen to Groups?

Each Group will become an individual Space. You’ll see them in the left-hand navigation in a Collection called “Groups.” Your current Group branding (Group color, logo and primary photo or video, will transfer over as well. You can see this transition happen in real-time in the video above!

All Members will retain their membership to Groups they have already purchased or joined.

They will now be able to easily see the Groups they are a Member of in their left-hand navigation bar. If you had Group Hosts or Group Moderators, they will retain their permissions and become Space Hosts or Space Moderators of the new Space.

Groups will have the Feed, Discovery, Members, and Events features enabled by default. You can change what lives in your Groups and what the features are named at any point after December 8th.

What Will Happen to Courses?

Each Course will become an individual Space. You’ll see them in the left-hand navigation in a Collection called “Courses.” Your current Course branding (Course color, logo and primary photo or video, will transfer over as well. You can see this transition happen in real-time in the video above!

All Members will retain their membership to Courses they have already purchased or joined.

They will now be able to easily see the Courses they are a Member of in their left-hand navigation bar. If you had Course Hosts or Course Moderators, they will retain their permissions and become Space Hosts or Space Moderators of the new Space.

Courses will have the Table of Contents, Feed, and Members features enabled by default. You can change what lives in your Courses and what the features are named at any point after December 8th.

What Will Happen to My Topics at the Network Level?

Prior to December 8th, each Host will be given the choice to shift Network Topics to individual Spaces, to hashtags, or both.

If you choose to shift your Topics to Spaces, each Network-level Topic will become a Space with a Feed that consists of all posts you have tagged as that Topic. The content will be moved out of the Home Space into new Spaces.

If you choose hashtags, the content in all your Topics will remain in your Home Space (what you currently see as your Network Activity Feed) and will include a hashtag matching the name of the Topic it was assigned to. And yes–this means you’ll finally be able to tag posts with multiple hashtags!

(Also, guess what 👀 #hashtags are already live—so you can test out using them right now!)

If you don’t choose anything, the default is “both”—your Topics will shift to both Spaces and hashtags.

Update: If you don’t choose anything, your Network-level Topics will shift to hashtags. We changed this default after reviewing early feedback and feel this will be the best default option for Hosts.

We have a Spaces Checklist to help you think this through. But again—no action is required, as Network-level Topics will automatically become both Spaces and hashtags if you can’t decide.

To summarize: If you want your Topics to be more like Groups, then convert them to Spaces. If you want to use Topics as a way of categorizing posts in a feed, then you can choose hashtags. If you’re not sure, don’t worry! They’ll be converted to both by default and you can go from there.

What Will Happen to My Topics at the Group and Course Level?

Topics within Groups or Courses will become hashtags.

I’m on the [Community/Business/Path-to-Pro/Pro] Plan—Is My Feature Set Changing? Is My Pricing Changing?

Nope! You’ll be able to do everything you can do today on the plan you’re on. And, if you’re on a paid plan when we make the switch on December 8th, you’ll have access to unlimited Spaces!

That’s on top of the unlimited Members, Hosts, and Moderators you have today.

And your pricing will not change.

After December 8th, we will likely revisit unlimited Spaces and our pricing. But because you’re here, you’re going to benefit from getting in now!

What Are All the Features You’ll Be Able to Add to a Space?

In each Space, you’ll be able to add a:

  • Feed
  • Discovery
  • Event Series
  • Chat
  • Member Directory
  • Table of Contents*
  • Page*
  • Single Event*

In each Space, you can have all of these features, one of them, or any combination, ordered in any way you see fit.

You can also rename these features to anything you want.

*These features are only available on The Business Plan. Table of Contents is how you'll create structured course content, and Page and Single Event are new features we're adding with this release.

What will NOT be Changed?

Here’s what will not be affected by the December 8th update.

Unlimited Members, Hosts, Moderators

You will still have the ability to invite unlimited Members, Hosts, and Moderators to your Network.

And Host and Moderator roles will remain the same.

Branding

Landing Pages are not going to change.

You’ll still be able to have different branding for each Space with colors, custom icons (which can be GIFs), and, if you’re on a Pro or Path-to-Pro plan, the ability to add custom banners per Space.

Content

The Welcome Checklist will not change—but we will be adding the ability to have a checklist per Space after the initial launch on 12/8.

The Featured and Welcome sections will not change, but you’ll be able to have a Discovery section per Space, should you choose to.

Articles, Quick Posts, Polls & Questions will remain the same. You’ll use them in the “Feed” feature should you choose to have that enabled in any of your Spaces.

Livestreaming

Livestreaming will not change—but you’ll be able to livestream from every Space!

Events

The process of creating and managing Events will work the same way.

Integrations

None of the Zapier connections you have set up will change. Zaps will still zap!

Your Zoom integration will still work as expected.

Custom Links

You’ll still have 4 custom navigation links in your left-hand navigation bar. They’ll sit below your Collections and Spaces.

Member Profile

Profile fields are not changing.

Notifications

Member Notifications and Host Notifications will stay the same.

Plans

Plans will be set up the same way—you’ll have the ability to include Spaces in Plans.

All of your Bundles, Internal, and External Plans will remain intact. You’ll be able to Bundle Spaces together.

Privacy

Privacy levels (Private, Secret, Paid, Public) will remain the same.

Sharing

The Ambassador Program will stay the same, as will invitations.

All of your links will still work.

And, as detailed above: what you can do on your Community or Business Plan, and your pricing, will stay the same.

So while there’s a lot to be excited about, so much of what you’re used to will work exactly the same way.
